Emily Cabot Mysteries
In the first book of the series, Emily Cabot is introduced as a graduate student in sociology at the newly opened University of Chicago. After her first year she gets to explore the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition with her mother and brother. But when her friend Dr. Chapman is accused of murder, she seeks assistance of black activist Ida B. Wells to help expose the truth. In the second book of the series Emily finds work at the famous settlement established by Jane Addams. When a man is found murdered in the parlor, Emily has to discover whether one of the residents is responsible, or is it somehow related to a tragedy in her own past. In the third book of the series, Emily and Dr. Chapman to the factory town of Pullman to run a Hull House relief center during the strike brought on by layoffs and high rents. But when a young worker is murdered and suspected of being a company spy, Emily finds herself in conflict with her friend Detective Whitbread who is investigating the murder. Meanwhile tension mounts as the American Railway Union and the General Managers Association face off over the strike.
